Information Centre
- The Information Centre is a critical resource in the capacity building program. Owing to poverty, lack of education, and socio-cultural norms, marginalized women have limited or no access to the world of technology and computers, which in turn adversely impacts their chances of accessing suitable employment and/or opportunities for livelihood. The Information Centre serves to fill this gap by imparting Basic Computer Skills to young women from minority and marginalized communities. The vocational training is based on an innovative curriculum based on needs assessment of the target group and is delivered by formally trained staff and volunteers. The women are trained in basic computer applications including Microsoft Word, standard Internet, email, website applications and social media technologies. The Centre also provides advanced courses for data input and accounts, including Microsoft Excel and Tally. The technical infrastructure is funded by both public and private donations.
The Infor
mation Centre serves as an important knowledge and resource base for women, enabling them to access the government entitlements and services. Basic information, including the regulatory procedure for application, is provided to women on government entitlements such as the PAN Card, Voter ID, UID, and Minority Scholarships among others. The Centre also posts regular updates on the latest government beneficiary schemes targeting women on education, medical benefits, health care, and employment. More importantly, the team helps the women with all their documentation needs, including administrative liaison and follow-up related to their application to access the entitlement. Sanatkada Samajik Pehel also supports the education of low-income women through scholarships.
