Sadbhavna Trust – Sanatkada Samajik Pehel, Lucknow
Sanatkada, a crafts and weaves shop, was setup in Lucknow in 2006 to market products of rural crafts persons and weavers across the country. A team of young women from marginalized communities ran this shop, a social entrepreneurship. Their capacities were enhanced to be able to perform as capable managers. Whether it be in the profit sector or the non profit development sector representation and leadership of Dalit and Muslim women was minimal. It was also quite evident that few initiatives were there for young women’s leadership and capacity building for women from marginalized lower income communities.
This was the context within which Sadbhavana Trust Sanatkada Samajik Pehel began,sharing the same campus as the shop in the center of Lucknow in historic QaiserBagh. The field area for the Trust is based in nine marginalized, lower-income areas in the old city of Lucknow, including Charbagh, Talkotara, Daliganj.
